Venezuela has officially launched the pre-sale of its new national cryptocurrency called the petro, making it the first country in the world to issue official digital currency.
“Petro is born, and we are going to have a total success for the welfare of Venezuela,” President Nicolas Maduro said last Tuesday. According to Maduro, petro raised $735m in its first pre-sale day.
This development ironically comes as Venezuela faces deepening economic and political crises. But whether the petro is successful or not, it is a sure sign of where the world is heading: digital currency for all.
Besides Venezuela, the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and central banks around the world are talking seriously about the use of cryptocurrency.
Putting this emerging technology (which has never existed before) into a historical perspective makes for quite an interesting scene.
Whether you believe the Bible or not, it already accurately predicted such a thing 2000 years beforehand.
In the book of Revelation in the Bible, it tells us that a global dictator will rise to power and enforce a new worldwide method for every person on earth to transfer money: “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name” (Revelation 13:16-17).
For thousands of years this has not been possible for any leader on earth to do, as it requires advanced technology to create such an economic system. Yet today the technology to make it possible exists.
We not only have the global infrastructure for a digital currency. The technology whereby every person on earth could receive an electronic chip under their skin, and use it for financial transactions, also exists. This is very significant.
